Having spent 5 times providing crane services for major oil filter maintenance in Vietnam, we have realized that crane operation for major maintenance (turnaround) is an extremely special activity.

This activity is almost unlike any other regular crane rental activities.

In general, PLC would like to summarize some characteristics as follows:

Compliance:

An oil refinery is an extremely complex complex, so the first thing when working at an oil refinery in general and during turnarounds in particular is that crane suppliers must ensure high compliance. . All activities must comply with the principles set out by the refinery.

Equipment requirements are extremely strict:

Equipment in general and cranes in particular will be mobilized before the factory’s fire shutdown takes place as planned, so some equipment will work even when the factory is in operation. production activity. This requires equipment to be of very good safety and quality.

Oil refinery equipment is extremely valuable equipment. All errors, no matter how small, that can occur from the crane must be minimized. Otherwise, it will cause extremely serious consequences.

Each piece of equipment is an important link in the entire factory maintenance chain. Breakdowns or any activities that disrupt the use of the crane must be minimized.

Availability requirements are very high:

Each crane device usually takes on a main working position. The working time of a crane is usually not too much, but the requirement for crane availability is often very high.

Each crane truck will always have to arrange day and night shift operators to be able to follow the contractors’ movements 24/7.

All operators participating at the factory must always strictly ensure the principles of fire and explosion prevention and alcohol concentration, both during and outside their shifts.

Must be well organized:

The exchange of communication information in the oil refinery is extremely limited, even using walkie-talkies or specialized phones.

The crane supplier must have an organization plan right outside the factory before each shift to ensure the work can be carried out smoothly.

In addition, backup plans for personnel, equipment, and spare parts must always be available to be able to handle all arising situations as quickly as possible.

Types of cranes that PLC provides for oil refinery maintenance services
Through 5 oil refinery maintenance periods at BSR and NSRP, PLC found that tire cranes still dominate the number during each plant maintenance period.

Chain cranes will be used for product codes of the highest filter towers if required.

The types of cranes used in the maintenance sessions are as follows:

TA BSR 2014:

• Tire crane: 50 – 300T tires (Kato KA-3000).
• Crawler crane: 600T Demag CC2800

TA BSR 2017:

• Tire crane: 50 – 400T tires (Liebherr LTM1400 – replaces 300T vehicle configuration).
• Crawler crane: 600T Demag CC2800

TA NSRP in 2019:

• 50 ton tire crane – 800 ton tire crane (Liebherr LTM1800).

TA NSRP 2021:

• Tire crane: 50 – 300T tires (Kato KA-3000).
• Crawler crane: 400T Demag CC2400

TA NSRP 2023:

• Tire crane: 50 – 700T tires (Demag AC700).
