Methods for discharging STS and RTG container cranes from ship to shore:
For RTG cranes:
RTG cranes, being rubber-tired cranes, are relatively simpler to discharge from ship to shore.
In addition to carefully dismantling the tie systems and braces, it is essential to prepare the crane for safe movement.
Preparing the beam connection system between the mother ship and the crane is also crucial to ensure the smooth discharge of the RTG crane from ship to port.
For RTG cranes equipped with onboard generators, self-supplied power will be used for the discharge process.
For those without onboard generators, external power must be supplied to the RTG crane during its discharge from ship to shore.
For STS cranes:
Discharging STS cranes from ship to shore is a much more complex task.
The braces between the STS crane and the ship are meticulously arranged, and dismantling these braces requires a significant amount of work. The task is performed in tight spaces, requiring a high degree of professionalism and attention to detail.
In addition, with a self-weight typically ranging from 600 tons to 1,000 tons, STS cranes have a high center of gravity.
Given their weight, the load pressure exerted by the STS crane when moving from ship to port is substantial.
Thus, one of the most critical tasks in discharging an STS crane is ensuring proper load distribution on the port, preventing any damage to the port structure.
Furthermore, due to the crane’s large weight, balancing the mother ship using a ballast pump system is a vital task, ensuring the safe and smooth discharge of the crane.
Two main methods for discharging STS cranes from ship to port are:
– Using a rail system combined with a winch.
– Using a self-propelled hydraulic trailer system (SPMT).
The choice of discharge method depends on the specific conditions and requirements of each port.
However, discharging STS cranes using a rail system is the safest and most cost-effective method.
Methods for discharging STS and RTG container cranes from shore to ship:
Discharging container cranes from shore to ship is a distinct task compared to the aforementioned process.
The previous work usually takes place at factories or crane assembly sites.
In some rare cases, the discharge of container cranes from shore to ship or barge is carried out due to changes in port production plans.
For RTG cranes, discharging from shore to ship is not significantly different from discharging from ship to shore.
However, for STS cranes, when discharging from port to ship to serve business operations, the self-propelled hydraulic trailer system (SPMT) is typically used to save time for the investor.
